The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1920 with its first concert conducted by Sir Edward Elgar. The Orchestra came to international prominence in the 1980s and 1990s under the leadership of Sir Simon Rattle, and continues to prosper under the baton of its current Music Director, Sakari Oramo. In addition to the Orchestra, the CBSO family now includes four choruses, a youth orchestra and a thriving education and community programme.
